Fate of the JediThe Official Star Wars Site has released a first look at the cover to the upcoming book Star Wars: Fate of the Jedi – Ascension. The novel, written by Christie Golden, is the 8th of the 9-book Fate of the Jedi series, and is scheduled to be released on August 16, 2011. The artwork is by Ian Keltie, and portrays a maturing Ben Skywalker with what seems to be Sith Apprentice Vestara Khai without her face tattoos. Clearly, the cover is designed to evoke the message that both characters are maturing because of the events surrounding them.

The Fate of the Jedi series depicts events set two years after Darth Caedus (formerly Jacen Solo) has been killed. Natasi Daala is Chief of State of the Galactic Alliance, and manages to exile Luke Skywalker and his son from Coruscant. The Skywalkers go on a journey to discover why and how Jacen Solo turned to the Dark Side of the Force, and while doing so, they encounter an ancient being more menacing and more evil than anything they’ve ever faced, which causes them to become allies with the most unlikely of groups: Sith Lords.

While Ascension is the eighth book in the series, the next official release will actually be Fate of the Jedi: Conviction, the 7th in the series, which is scheduled to be released on May 24, 2011.
